Spring Garden Seeding

We spent this past gorgeous Monday in the sunshine, working in Edward Murphy’s schoolyard garden during our after school Green Club.

It felt so good to be outside without winter jackets, planting and watering and seeing what’s already growing in our garden!

Newspaper Seeding

The Edward Murphy Green Club is back in full swing!

We kicked off our first spring Green Club meeting with a newspaper seeding activity. Some seeds we’re starting are zucchini, green kale, zinnia flowers and grape tomatoes! We can’t wait to see how they do!

Seed Bomb Day

On Monday, March 26, 2018, there was an exciting “Seed Bomb Day” event at Edward Murphy!

Two daycare groups made two different types of seed bombs. The Grades 4 to 6 students made greens bombs with black and green kale and arugula. The Grade 2 to 3 group made marigolds bombs to add colour, attract pollinators and deter insect pests around the schoolyard and our schoolyard garden.

Everyone had fun and got creative making seed bombs into all kinds of shapes—animals, food shapes, cubes and more!

Our seed bombs will be saved for a “launching day” to be scheduled this spring, when we will throw our seed bombs around the schoolyard and let them grow.

Our Green Club was on hiatus for the winter months, so this activity gave our daycare a fresh taste of Green Club activities in anticipation of our official Green Club relaunch on Monday, April 9, 2018.
